General Elections in the Turks and Caicos Islands give the electorate the opportunity to choose their representatives in Parliament. These elections are a cornerstone of the Islands’ democratic system, ensuring that Parliament reflects the will of the people and provides a forum for representation, debate, accountability, and national decision-making. Through this process, voters elect Members of Parliament who represent their communities and the wider national interest, debate legislation, raise public concerns, examine government policies, and hold the Government accountable.

The most recent General Election was held on 7 February 2025. It returned nineteen elected Members to serve in the Parliament of the Turks and Caicos Islands, including representatives elected from constituencies and Members elected at large. Following the election, the Progressive National Party formed the Government, while the People’s Democratic Movement forms the Opposition.

Within Parliament, Government Members support the administration and advance its legislative agenda, while Opposition Members provide scrutiny, challenge policies where necessary, and present alternative viewpoints. This balance between Government and Opposition is essential to parliamentary democracy, as it encourages open debate, promotes accountability, and ensures that different perspectives are represented in the decision-making process.

In addition to elected Members, Parliament includes ex officio Members who serve in accordance with the Constitution. Together, the elected and ex officio Members contribute to the work of Parliament and the democratic governance of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
