Attorney General

Hon. Rhondalee Braithwaite-Knowles, MP, OBE, KC, is a native of Grand Turk and a distinguished public servant whose career has been defined by service to Parliament, constitutional governance, and the rule of law in the Turks and Caicos Islands. She began her career in public service in August 2000 as Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers and steadily progressed through every senior legal rank, gaining extensive institutional knowledge of government operations and Parliamentary processes.

On 1 April 2008, she was appointed Deputy Attorney General, becoming the first Turks and Caicos Islander to hold that office. In this capacity, she played a pivotal advisory role to Cabinet and Parliament, providing legal guidance on legislative development, constitutional matters, and governance reform during a critical period in the Islands’ history.

A defining moment in Parliamentary history occurred on 6 March 2014, when Hon. Braithwaite-Knowles was sworn in at the House of Assembly as the first local, youngest, and first female Attorney General of the Turks and Caicos Islands. As Attorney General and a Member of Parliament, she has served as the principal legal adviser to the Legislature, safeguarding constitutional order, strengthening legislative frameworks, and supporting democratic accountability.

Her Parliamentary service has been marked by leadership in legislative drafting, treaty implementation, and international compliance, ensuring that the laws of the Turks and Caicos Islands meet global standards while reflecting national priorities. In recognition of her exceptional public service, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013 and, in 2019, became the Islands’ first female Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel).

Hon. Braithwaite-Knowles’ philosophy of service is grounded in integrity, institutional continuity, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening Parliament and the democratic foundations of the Turks and Caicos Islands for generations to come.
