Youth Parliament
The National Youth Parliament of the Turks and Caicos Islands
The Turks and Caicos Islands National Youth Parliament (TCINYP) is a non-partisan association providing young people, across the Turks and Caicos Islands, a platform to critically engage in executing civic duties through community service, networking opportunities, and structured Parliamentary debate on issues of national importance, closely mirroring the standards, procedures, and courtesies of the Turks and Caicos Islands’ House of Parliament.
The TCINYP offers young Turks and Caicos Islanders the opportunity to learn and take part in Parliamentary proceedings, debating pertinent issues of the day through assigned roles — including Premier, Deputy Premier, Leader of the Opposition, Ministers, and Elected Member portfolios. Its impact goes beyond the chambers, with activities spanning from encouraging greater civic participation to public education through training and involvement in community volunteering and development efforts.
Purpose and Objectives
The TCINYP seeks to develop well-rounded young citizens by connecting them with local, regional, and international Parliamentary decision-making structures. The overall goal is to empower young Turks and Caicos Islanders to understand, engage with, and appreciate the dynamic democratic and political processes. It aims to:
Raise awareness of national issues and educate young citizens to become active, well-informed participants in the Turks and Caicos Islands’ civic environment.
Build a meaningful leadership development journey for young Turks and Caicos Islanders through curated training sessions and programmes.
Expose young people to community volunteering initiatives and opportunities to foster a culture of positively giving back to local communities.
Provide a formal, robust, and encouraging space in which young people can voluntarily express their views in contribution to a proposed Parliamentary motion, policy or bill.
