Minister for Home Affairs, Social Development and Transportation
LL.B (HONS), P.DIP, TEP, MHA
Hon. Akierra Mary Deanne Missick has served the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands with distinction for more than a decade as the elected Member of the House of Assembly for the constituency of Leeward and Long Bay, Providenciales. First elected in 2012 and returned to office for a fourth consecutive term in 2025, she is widely regarded as one of the Islands' most experienced legislators and a leading advocate for education, youth advancement, national development, and effective public administration.
A civil litigation attorney by profession, Hon. Missick has built a career in public service characterised by policy reform, institution-building, and a commitment to expanding opportunities for Turks and Caicos Islanders. Throughout her parliamentary service, she has consistently championed initiatives aimed at strengthening education, improving access to housing, modernising public services, and enhancing the quality of life for communities across the Islands.
Early in her parliamentary career, Hon. Missick at the age of 29 years old served as the youngest Deputy Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands and Minister of Education, Youth Affairs, Sport and Library Services. During this period, she advanced a comprehensive national agenda focused on improving educational outcomes, expanding access to tertiary education, and strengthening youth development programmes. Her tenure contributed to major investments in educational infrastructure and reforms designed to equip Turks and Caicos Islanders to compete successfully in an increasingly global economy.
She subsequently served as Leader of Government Business in the House of Assembly and Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development. In those capacities, she worked to strengthen parliamentary governance and ensure effective coordination between Cabinet and the House of Assembly. As Minister responsible for Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development, she elevated housing accessibility as a national policy priority and led the development of the National Housing and Shelter Policy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she established a temporary work programme to assist residents affected by economic disruption, an initiative that evolved into the Community Enhancement Programme, which continues to benefit communities throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.
In May 2026, Hon. Missick returned to Cabinet as Minister of Home Affairs, assuming responsibility for a diverse portfolio that includes citizenship and naturalisation, civil registration, district administration, transportation regulation, motor vehicle services, and public service transformation. In this role, she has prioritised the modernisation of government services, the strengthening of identity and citizenship systems, transportation reform, and the advancement of local governance initiatives. She has also played a leading role in supporting the implementation of the National Identification Programme as part of the Government's broader digital transformation agenda.
Among her early initiatives as Minister of Home Affairs has been the establishment of dedicated Civil Services Centres to improve direct access to citizenship, passport, Islander Status, and civil registration services, reflecting her commitment to a more responsive, accountable, and citizen-focused public service. She has further placed transportation reform and road safety among the Ministry's principal priorities, leading efforts to develop a modern, safe, and accessible public transportation framework for the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Within Parliament, Hon. Missick has contributed extensively to national governance through service on several key committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, the Standing Orders Committee, the Political Activities Ordinance Committee, and the Constitutional Review Committee, on which she has served through successive review cycles. She has also represented the Turks and Caicos Islands through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians network, and the National Youth Parliament Executive Committee.
Throughout her public life, Hon. Missick has remained closely connected to her constituency, supporting improvements in community infrastructure, public safety, recreational facilities, and neighbourhood development initiatives for the residents of Leeward and Long Bay.
Her public service has been guided by a consistent belief that the enduring strength of the Turks and Caicos Islands lies in investing in its people, strengthening national institutions, and creating pathways through which every citizen can achieve their full potential.
