Appropriation Committee

The Appropriations Committee considers matters relating to the approval and allocation of public funds. Its work is closely linked to the national budget process and the review of proposed government expenditure for ministries, departments, and agencies.

The Committee helps Parliament examine how money is requested, allocated, and justified before public funds are approved. This may include reviewing budget proposals, supplementary appropriations, financial estimates, and other matters connected to the authorisation of public spending.

Its role is important because the approval of public expenditure is one of Parliament’s core responsibilities. The Committee provides an opportunity for closer scrutiny of financial proposals before they are debated or approved by the wider Parliament.

Through its work, the Appropriations Committee supports responsible budgeting, informed decision-making, and greater transparency in how public funds are allocated to meet national priorities.
